Biography

    Benedetta Piantella is a multimedia and interactive installation artist, hardware developer and interaction designer,
    living and working in New York. She was born and raised in Parma, Italy. In May 2004 she graduated with a B.F.A.
    from Tufts University and School of the Museum of Fine Arts, while attending courses at  Harvard,  Berklee College
    of Music, MIT and Massachussets College of Art. During her four years in Boston, she worked as a teacher at SMFA
    introducing new technologies in the world of digital photography and light sensitive materials. In 2003 she assisted
    in the preparation of the American Pavilion of the 50th Venice Biennale, while working for the MIT LIST Visual Arts
    Center of Cambridge. She moved to New York City and is now an adopted NYC resident. In 2008 she obtained her
    Master's degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU, while teaching Lego robotics in schools,
    writing as a freelance journalist, assisting artists and pursuing interactive exhibits in the United States and Europe.
    She also obtained another Master's degree from CUNY and La Sapienza University, in Rome, in online community
    management and new forms of journalism, and completed an Agroforestry Certification.
   
    She worked for design firms like Tinker.it! in Milan, and Smart Design in NY, where she produced fully functioning
    prototypes for high-end clients.

    Benedetta is co-founder of GRND Lab, a sustainable design lab located in Brooklyn, focused on software-hardware
    development, prototyping, specialty fabrication and interaction design.
